Looking for Maternal Mortality Review Panel Members

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) convenes a multidisciplinary Maternal Mortality Review Panel (the Panel) to conduct comprehensive reviews of maternal deaths to identify factors associated with those deaths and make recommendations for system changes to improve health care services for women.

 

DOH is seeking candidates to form a new multidisciplinary panel that will convene in 2020. To apply to become a Maternal Mortality Review Panel member, go to www.doh.wa.gov/maternalmortality  before the application period closes on October 15.

 

To strengthen and enhance the Maternal Mortality Review Panel and process, DOH seeks to include people from all types of cultural and racial/ethnic backgrounds, from all over Washington State, and with all types of professional experience and backgrounds, including (but not limited to):

  • Women’s, obstetric and maternal/perinatal health medical, nursing and service providers
  • Newborn and pediatric medical, nursing and service providers
  • Perinatal behavioral health medical and service providers
  • Pathologists, coroners, and medical examiners
  • Individuals or organizations that represent the populations most affected by pregnancy-related deaths or pregnancy-associated deaths and lack of access to maternal health care services
  • Maternal support services and community programs, including doulas, maternity support service providers, and home visitors
  • Representatives from state agencies, including the Health Care Authority and the Department of Children, Youth and Families
  • Medical specialties like cardiology, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology
